Joy in Contentment

May 29, 2022

In light of this week’s message, we encourage you to consider these questions and dig in a little deeper with your personal study, with your family, or with your small group.

1) How do you define contentment?  Based on your definition, how content are you?

2) Paul says he has learned to be content in all circumstances.  What circumstances do you struggle to be content in or content with?

3) Contentment does not mean that we never desire better things or different circumstances or easier situations.  What are some of the negative outcomes in our attitudes or our actions that result from us having a lack of contentment.

4) Paul says we should worry about nothing and pray about everything.  (Phil 4:6-7).  How are those 2 ideas connected?

5) Read Philippians 4:8.  Why should we think this way?  What happens when we don’t?

6) Our joy is not dependent on what others have or on what we wish we had, but by learning to be content with the life and things we do have.  What are some practical steps you can take to experience joy in contentment?

Joy in Purpose

May 22, 2022

In light of this week’s message, we encourage you to consider these questions and dig in a little deeper with your personal study, with your family, or with your small group.

1) Do you have uncertainty about your future? When you think about it, what thoughts, feelings or emotions do you experience?

2) In the past, have you ever considered your purpose in life?  What did you think it was?

3) In the teaching it was said that staying true to the Lord should be our purpose and no matter what our future holds that we can find Joy in that Purpose.  How would you describe or define staying true to the Lord in the life of a believer?  How does that line up with your life?  What needs to change?

4) In the teaching there were 4 life journey realizations of Paul’s.

I’m not perfect.  But Jesus is.

I’m far from the goal.  But I’m still going for it.

I haven’t arrived.  But I will.

I don’t know my future.  But I know my purpose.

Can you relate to any of these? Do they provide assurance for you in your journey?

5) Read Philippians 3:17. Can you say to others that when it comes to staying true to the Lord to follow your example or to pattern their lives after yours?  Take a moment and ask God to show you how you can do that.

Joy in Knowing Jesus

May 15, 2022

In light of this week’s message, we encourage you to consider these questions and dig in a little deeper with your personal study, with your family, or with your small group.

1) The Apostle Paul would tell us that true Joy comes from knowing Jesus.  What are some things that you have chased after or done that may have given you momentary pleasure but did not bring lasting joy?

2) What are some things that fellow Christians have done to distract you from finding Joy in knowing Jesus?

3) How do you know Jesus best: Intellectually, Emotionally, Theologically, Theoretically or through personal experience? Explain.

4) Read Matthew 13:44.  How does this parable show us the value of knowing Jesus?

5) Are there things that you value more than Jesus?  Things that you have pursued, accomplished, or only dreamed of accomplishing?  What are they?  How can you place knowing Jesus above them?

6) Do you crave an every day, doing whatever it takes, in-it-all-the-way knowledge of Christ Jesus?  Take a moment and pray that God would fill you with that desire.

Joy in Humility

May 8, 2022

In light of this week’s message, we encourage you to consider these questions and dig in a little deeper with your personal study, with your family, or with your small group.

1) What is one thing that stood out to you from this weeks message?

2) What causes the church to not be united?

3) What can we do to prevent/address/solve that?

4) What is it about grumbling and complaining that makes it impossible for a person to be innocent?

5) Why do you think it’s so important that our attitudes match our actions?

6) What does it mean for a Christian to walk worthy of the gospel of Christ, and how can we practically live out this reality this week?
